It's no secret how much I love to photograph babies...and occasionally I get the chance to photograph beautiful bellies as well.  Most parents-to-be are super excited, but Jamie and Tarik are over the moon about their soon-to-be-born miracle baby!

This little man was sooo adorable and I'm quite sure that he is the light of his mother's (and grandmother's!) life!  My own littlest guy is very close to his age, so I'm quite the expert at photographing toddler boys.  We had a great time!

A lot of sneak peeking to do • Indianapolis photography

I'm just starting to catch my breath after returning from North Carolina last night.  My whirlwind trip included three photo sessions, one evening with a dear photographer friend, and five days at the beach.  It was especially wonderful considering that the forecast looked to be terribly bleak the day that I left (see below).  Thank goodness the weather man was wrong and we had quite a bit of sunshine instead!  :)

So before I bury my head in the lovely sessions waiting to be edited, I thought I'd show a few sneak peeks of what I've been working on...

A huge honor (Indianapolis photographer)

I've been nudged by several fellow photographers to "spill the beans already" regarding some exciting news.  One of my photographs was selected to be part of 150 images being published in the upcoming book Fresh M.I.L.K.: Families, Friends, Lovers and Laughter.  I am beyond humbled to have my photo grace the pages with so many amazing photographs and I can't wait to see the book in print.  For now, here's a sneak peek of my winning image and its caption...

Evelyn and her great grandson Micah are captured with similarly quizzical expressions at her Chillecothe, Ohio nursing home.  This momentous occasion was both the first time they would meet as well as, sadly, the last.  Although Evelyn passed away only a few short months later, this photograph will always be treasured.

And here's a bit about the project's history...

In 1999, British publisher Hodder Headline (now Hachette Livre) held a global photographic competition called M.I.L.K. (Moments of Intimacy, Laughter and Kinship). Inspired by the 1950s landmark photographic exhibition, ‘The Family of Man’, M.I.L.K. began as an epic global search to find unique and geographically diverse images on the themes of friendship, family and love. It was not only the richest in photographic history, but also one of the most significant, drawing participation from 17,000 professional and amateur photographers in 164 countries. In total over 40,000 images were received by M.I.L.K., including at least four Pulitzer Prize winners. The 300 winning images were chosen by the Chief Judge, Magnum photographer Elliott Erwitt, and were the basis for three books entitled Family, Friendship and Love and an international touring exhibition launched at New York’s Grand Central Terminal in 2001.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the original M.I.L.K. competition, M.I.L.K. Licensing (now a subsidiary of PQ Blackwell), again in association with Elliott Erwitt, is conducting a new competition founded on the themes of friends, families, lovers and laughter to create a new collection of 150 images. The 150 winning images will be published in a new book entitled Fresh M.I.L.K.: Friends, Families, Lovers & Laughter in Fall 2009, and on selected licensed products.
